Gouldman. The two got together after 10cc split up in 1983 and released a
total of three studio albums, including the 1987 American English. The album
grew into their most successful effort, largely due to the hit single
"Bridge To Your Heart", which charted in the top 10 in many
European countries and remains their biggest hit to-date. The album spawned
two more singles; "American English" and "In Some Other

week’s episode of the Naked Lunch podcast is set to release on July 31st. Episode
Title: 10cc's Graham Gouldman
& Shelly Peiken: Tales of Two
Great Songwriters Episode
Description: David & Phil share stories with two amazing
songwriters. Graham Gouldman wrote some of the greatest rock classics of The
British Invasion as a teenager in The Sixties, before becoming a founding
member of 10cc in The Seventies. Graham is currently leading 10cc on the
Ultimate, Ultimate Greatest Hits Tour playing their first American dates in
over three decades. Shelly Peiken is a major American songwriter, writing or
co-writing smashes like "What A Girl Wants" and "Come On Over
Baby" by Christina Aguilera, "Bitch" by Meredith Brooks,
"Almost Doesn't Count" by Brandy, and one of David's favorite songs
of all-time, "Human" recorded by The Pretenders. Shelly also wrote
the 2016 book, "Confessions of a Serial Songwriter," Grammy
nominated for Best Spoken Word Album. To learn more about Graham, go to https://www.grahamgouldman.info.

May 2024 June 16th’s Northern Kin Festival Postponed… From
the organisers of the Northern Kin Festival, in Durham, northern England… “Sorry
to be the bearer of bad news but we sadly have to confirm that Northern Kin
Festival is having to be pushed back by 12 months to the weekend of 1st to
3rd August 2025 due to unprecedented weather conditions, that have rendered
the site unusable this year, as detailed below. Due
to the worst 18 months of rainfall for nearly 200 years and 50% above average
rain, across this time, the planned extensive drainage infrastructure works
and other site works, have been continually held up, with an ongoing wait for
a dry spell. We
now find ourselves with insufficient time for the groundworks team to
complete these works to a satisfactory manner that would allow ourselves to
confidently run the events on this new site in a completely safe manner and
with the best experience for everyone possible at our new planned long-term
home. The
recent photos of the flooding, attached, never experienced like this before,
are self-explanatory and we have had to make the decision, with a heavy
heart, to move both festivals back by 12 months, allowing plenty of time to
complete all site work and prepare the new site to the high standard we have
planned. I'm
really sorry to bring you this news as despite our best efforts to complete
the required drainage works in time, the continuous wet weather has stopped
this. As you’ll know, rainfall in the previous 12 months has been over 60%
above the previous 100 year average, and rainfall in February and March in
the area affected (County Durham) has been 115% over the 100 year average for
the same period. This is, by any
definition, unprecedented. The result
of this is that the heavy machinery needed to deliver our preparatory works
have been unable to safely access the site to complete the works in a manner
which would be deemed safe by any standard and the work has had to keep being
put back, now leaving insufficient time to complete it.” The concert site
is totally unusable due to recent storms. Producers Have An Offering… Producers
(previously known as the Trevor Horn Band), were formed in 2006, they include
record producers Trevor Horn (bass and vocals), Steve Lipson (guitar), and
musicians Lol Creme (guitar and vocals) and Ash Soan (drums). This
5CD set compiled in conjunction with the band includes the original album as
well as an alternate version, remixes, out-takes and instrumentals all
overseen by Steve Lipson (with assistance from Andy Pearce). A
double LP version will have an extensive booklet which features a new
interview with the band by Record Collector’s Daryl Easlea who details the
process of the making of this classic record. The
5CD set can be pre-ordered from Cherry Red Records
for £33.99 and the Double Vinyl edition chimes in at £29.99 Release
date for both will be July 26th 2024 |

October 2023 RAAC Concerns Close Venues… Unfortunately,
concerns over the reliability of Reinforced
Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (RAAC), which made headlines when a number of
schools closed or faced resulted use, have spread to theatres and concert
venues. As a result, several have closed while remedial works are undertaken.
Events have been cancelled, ticket money refunded and at least one venue
expects to be closed for a year. Our March
2024 tour has so far had the concert at Carlisle’s Sands Centre replaced by
the Easterbrook Hall in Dumfries,
while we have yet to find a venue to replace the concert lost by the closure
of St David’s Hall in Cardiff. We feel for all
those of you who have had enforced refunds and hope you can find another
concert on the tour that suits. For Cardiff ticket holders, there are still a
few tickets left at the Swansea
and Bristol shows, if you want to
make the journey. Let’s hope these
are the only ones affected. Slight Change Of Concert Venue… Next year’s 10cc
tour has a slight alteration for you to take note of. Wednesday March 13th was supposed to see 10cc play at
the Sands Centre in Carlisle. Please note that the concert that day will now

Shuffle. There will also be an opportunity for questions from the audience
and Graham will round off each part of the evening with an acoustic
performance of a song that is of particular significance to him. Graham says "I

July 2023 Herman’s Hermits, Manchester United and Graham Gouldman… A few years ago,
Herman’s Hermits recorded a song called “It’s Nice To Be Out In The Morning”. Graham explains
in an interview about the link to Manchester United. Read the interview here. I’m Not In Love As You’ve Never Heard It Before… Blogger and all
round good guy Sean Macreavy recently
bought some tapes at an auction. His words… Here's a real treat for 10cc
fans, and lovers of the best-produced record of all time! We recently bought these three tapes at
auction, from part of the collection of 10cc and Strawberry Studios material
previously owned by their late tour manager Zeb White. These are backing tapes used on the band's 1980 and
1982 tours, featuring two (or three!) songs. The first is the intro and bell
effects for I'm Mandy, Fly Me. The real treasure here though is the backing
track for I'm Not in Love. It's absolutely stunning to hear this incredible
arrangement and production without any of the lead vocal parts! This is the
first time this has ever been heard in isolation, by anyone outside the band
or Strawberry Studios. Another surprise
can be heard at the end of this video, a sound effect for the middle section
of From Rochdale to Ocho Rios! This
was discovered on the Backing Tracks Safety Master for the 1982 tour. Here is the YouTube link for
Sean’s video. |

Brisbane. Many thanks to Grace Stokes at scenestr.com.au
for her glowing review Heart Full Of Songs Flyers… We’ve been kindly

guess where and when? 2024 UK Tour Dates Announced… In typical style
and with a hint of self-mocking, art pop and rock legends 10cc announce a
major city tour for Spring 2024 with the title The Ultimate Ultimate
Greatest Hits Tour, following on from their sell-out Ultimate Greatest Hits
tour of 2022. The announcement comes as the band reach the end of a five-week
tour across Australia and New Zealand, with rave reviews – the longest tour
they have done in the region. The UK tour begins
in Bristol on 7 March and comprises 18 concerts, including a return
to London’s 5,200-seat Royal Albert Hall on 25 March. As a Daily
Telegraph confirmed last year, “Note perfect! 10cc's songbook,
full of fun and love and rage, remains blessedly the same”, while
the Daily Mail’s Richard Littlejohn said, “If you want the best of British
popular music, beg, steal or borrow a ticket. You won’t see a better show all
year”. Meanwhile in
Australia, the band’s concerts have attracted review comments such as, “the
tunes are a delicious sonic challenge. The playing is virtuosic”. Leading the touring
band, Graham Gouldman, the only one of the four founding members still
performing, says “In our formative years, it was all about the songs
and it’s the same for us now. We play them with love and energy, hit after
hit after hit … we show no mercy.” Having sold over 15
million albums in the UK alone, 10cc have eleven Top 10 hits to their name,
including three No 1 singles - Rubber Bullets, Dreadlock
Holiday and the ubiquitous I’m Not In Love – along
with Donna (No 2), Art For Art’s Sake and Good
Morning Judge (both reaching 5), The Things We Do For
Love and I’m Mandy Fly Me (6), and The Wall
Street Shuffle (10). The band comprises
Gouldman on bass guitars, electric guitar, acoustic guitar and vocals;
Rick Fenn - lead guitar, bass guitar, acoustic
guitar, vocals; Paul Burgess - drums, percussion, keyboards;
Keith Hayman - keyboards, electric guitar, bass guitar, vocals and Iain
Hornal - electric guitar, acoustic guitar, percussion, mandolin, keyboards
and vocals. Before the UK tour
in Spring, 10cc will head to Europe this Autumn for a 17-date tour across
Holland, Belgium and Germany. When 10cc played
Sweden’s prestigious Konserthuset in Stockholm earlier this year,
they met ABBA’s Bjorn Ulvaerus. He was in the audience and came backstage
after the show to congratulate the band. As a result, Gouldman has agreed to
join Ulvaerus on stage to talk about song-writing at a festival he runs in
Sweden in July. The Dates page has

March 2023 10cc, Herman’s Hermits & Many More… Harvey Lisberg has a book coming out on
March 30th of this year. It’s already in pre-order on the Amazon
site. It will be available in Hardcover and Kindle formats. Please check all
leading booksellers for details. “When 22-year-old accountant Harvey Lisberg
heard the Beatles’ ‘Please Please Me’, he had an epiphany: he could be
Manchester’s answer to Brian Epstein. He had a musical ear, a knack for
numbers and a gambler’s instinct for taking a punt. Within a year he had
taken local group, Herman’s Hermits, to number one with ‘I’m Into Something
Good’. Soon, Hermania was a global phenomenon. Harvey had found his vocation.
In this uproarious, frank and moving autobiography, he reveals the excesses
of life on the road with Herman’s Hermits; the frustration of championing
unknowns Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber; the highs and lows of managing the
brilliant 10cc; the utter madness of looking after snooker bad boys Alex
‘Hurricane’ Higgins and Jimmy ‘Whirlwind’ White and much, much more. Many
other artists benefitted from Harvey’s guidance during this time, including
Tony Christie, Barclay James Harvest, Sad Café and the Chameleons. I’m Into
Something Good is his account of a life that started in Salford and ended up
in Palm Springs; a life in which he travelled the world, met heroes and
villains, fulfilled his dreams, spent a fortune on good living, family and
friends, and never took himself or his achievements too seriously.” 10cc To Sprout In Brussels… “10cc’s popularity in Belgium has been
steadily growing, with successful concerts in other cities, and so we are
very pleased to finally present them in Brussels, especially at the Ancienne
Belgique,” says Kristof Van haegenberg of promoter Greenhouse Talent. 10cc
are to play at the prestigious Ancienne
Belgique in Brussels, Belgium
on Thursday 2 November 2023 – the
first show the current band has played in the city. Here is the ticket link and

A
Review From Ireland… A
review of one of the Dublin shows,
sent to the Irish Times (not sure whether it's been published though). Dear
Sir, On
Saturday, thanks to a gift from my brother Mike, I saw 10cc at Vicar Street. I must admit
I wasn't especially interested; I couldn't even remember the last time I
heard their music anywhere. The
support-act was a likable and talented young Irish singer-songwriter called Gary O'Neill—think,
Elliot Smith crossed with Ray La Montaigne by way of Townes Van Zandt. But,
somehow, he was his own man—a clear sign of an artist to watch. And
then it was 10cc's turn. How to do justice in the short space available for what
followed for those whose lives are the poorer for being absent? How to
describe being stunned as they tore into Wall St. Shuffle? For
one thing, I'd forgotten just how original the band was; such witty and
well-written songs. One propulsive, brilliant chord change followed
seamlessly on another; killer riffs rent the dry ice. Vocals and musicianship
were beyond impeccable. They were tight. The
audience's energy seemed to inspire them to still more innovative heights.
Talk about reciprocity. The band grinned, danced, and rocked; the elderly
audience, giddy as children on Christmas morning, wonderstruck and shapeless
as a wave, grinned, danced, and rocked right back—and sang their hearts out.
One standing ovation followed another: the band accepted each with what I can
only describe as a kind of glowing humility. It was obvious from the beaming
smiles of two of the band's founding members present, Graham Gouldman and
Rick Fenn, that their delight was immeasurable. It was pure joy from start to
finish, an irrepressible masterclass in the transformative power of music.
Call it love. In his poem Eternity, William Blake wrote
"he who binds to himself a joy does the winged-life destroy"—surely
the band's credo. The
HSC should hire 10cc to perform around the country for those brought low in
these dispiriting times. Yours, Kevin
Whelan …and
in the words of the Irish tour promoter, Brian Hand, himself … “The
shows were brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. They
knocked it out of the park every show.” We
don’t think we’ve ever published a concert review before, here on the Latest
News page. |

Live Tribute To 10cc… Back
in June, for two nights at Stockport's Garrick Theatre, there were fan-based
tributes to 50 years of 10cc. Organised by Sean Macreavy and his friends,
these consisted of music from both the 10cc AND the Godley & Creme
stables. Two evenings of incredible music, including *all* the great 10cc
hits and a selection of stunning, classic album tracks and lost gems. For the
first time ever, I'm Not in Love was performed with a live mix of 15 vocal
loops recorded by 40 volunteers. That's 700 vocals in total. 50cc also showcased some of the wonderful
solo songs written by Lol Creme, Kevin Godley, Graham Gouldman and Eric
Stewart since the 1960s. Classics by Herman's Hermits, Godley & Creme and
Wax were also included. Some of the
songs had never been performed live before. As a special and unique treat for
fans of 10cc and Stockport's iconic Strawberry Studios, the concerts featured
the first ever live tribute to Godley & Creme's epic 1977 debut album,
'Consequences'. Here’s a small taster for all to
enjoy. The
complete 50cc concert is now available for download and streaming from Sean’s
website at
the special price of just £4.99. |

staged a disappearing act. 53 years later, this missing piece of pre-10cc

Begins At Bandcamp… Like
most musicians during this last year
or so, Graham Gouldman found
himself with time to spare. With 10cc and solo shows postponed, Gouldman -
perhaps unsurprisingly - continued making music. “I
decided to record some of my favourite songs reinterpreted as instrumentals”,
explains Graham. “Some were tunes I’d known for years, which I would play for
my own enjoyment, and others were songs I just loved. I wanted to pay homage
to the writers, arrangers and artists who have gifted us with their musical
genius.” Recorded
mostly at home, on his own, the album has a distinct “easy listening” mellow
charm. Perhaps in contrast to the
world outside at the time, the soothing instrumentals are easy on the ear. “I
was inspired by what I thought were the definitive recordings”, he continues.
“For example, Peggy Lee’s version of ‘The Folks Who Live On The Hill’, Matt
Monroe’s ‘Somewhere’ and Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong’s ‘Summertime’.”
He
does allow himself the modest indulgence of including an original, alongside
the greats. “I’ve only included one self-composed track, ‘Resonator Rock’.” Mindful
that the many successes of his long career have provided him the means to
spend time on a self-indulgent project, Graham says, “I wanted the proceeds
of this album to go to the many musicians who have been so seriously affected
financially by the Covid pandemic.
Towards this end I have chosen ‘Help Musicians’ (www.helpmusicians.org.uk) as the charity
to benefit from your donations.” “Please
give generously. I hope you enjoy
listening to this album as much as I did making it.” “No
Words Today” is out on Friday, 3rd September, available exclusively via
Bandcamp: https://grahamgouldman.bandcamp.com

New From 1976… Back
in November 2019, we posted a piece on the News page about the Consequences
10cc Podcasts. Sean Macreavy and Paul McNulty have gone from strength to
strength with their endeavor. They were even commissioned by Record Collector
magazine recently to produce a 4-page article on Kevin Godley. They’ve
also been heavily involved with “The Great Stockport Bake-Off”. Three tapes
from many years ago have been sat in a cupboard for 15 to 20 years. One tape
contained several tracks that make up a Revlon “Natural Wonder” commercial. Read

2020 News Kevin
Godley’s Muscle Memory Track Releases Are Complete… This
will take you to each track’s video on YouTube. We’ve
added Kevin’s comments for each song. Muscle
Memory Track 11 : Bulletholes
In The Sky This
song pretty much sums up everything I’ve been singing about on Muscle Memory.
It’s a sad, but hopefully not too pretentious glance around the so-called
civilised world, as we collectively stumble towards an uncertain 2021 Muscle
Memory Track 10 : Song
Of Hate There
are people in my working life who I've cherished for their talent and
dedication. But there’ve also been a few who are so uniquely loathsome and
inept that I felt the need to celebrate them here, because no one else ever
will… Muscle
Memory Track 9 : Periscope
A
troubled man is losing touch with the modern world, so he barricades himself
in the basement of his house and resolves to re-examine the contradictions
and trajectory of his life before total paranoia sets in…but he fails and it
does. Muscle
Memory Track 8 : All
Bones Are White On
August 11th and 12th 2017, the unthinkable happened in Charlottesville
Virginia. I was struggling to write my first Muscle Memory lyric to a track
by Giles Perring at the time, but couldn’t help stopping to watch the news as
the horrors played out on channel after channel. I’d left the track playing
in loop mode in my work room and, as it soundtracked the terrifying TV
images, the words began to come. Muscle
Memory Track 7 : One
Day Imagine
software that digests an artist’s entire recorded output, analyses it at
granular level and, at the touch of a button, creates new tracks from the
original data. Here already? Still to come? Terrifying or fascinating? What
do you think? Muscle
Memory Track 6 : Cut
To The Cat A
compromised media executive struggles to understand what content he can still
produce in a hair-trigger cultural landscape. Muscle
Memory Track 5 : 5
Minutes Alone This
is a song about love, obsession, grief and revenge. The first three being
part of most peoples’ lives and revenge becoming available via a bespoke
service on the dark web. Muscle
Memory Track 4 : The
Bang Bang Theory The
Bang Bang Theory is a song about guns, politics, stupidity and yes, you’ve guessed
it…America. Muscle
Memory Track 3 : Hit
The Street An
eerily sparse composition for guitar, piano horn and vocals, ruminating on
Chet Baker’s mysterious final moments. Muscle
Memory Track 2 : The
Ghosts Of The Living A
track about the shock of bumping into people you never want to see again Muscle
Memory Track 1 : Expecting
A Message The track is about anticipating the best and getting the worst, wrapped up in a grisly alien abduction narrative |

10cc's
I'm Not in Love keyboard to sell at auction… 19 August 2019, Corsham, Wiltshire – A
keyboard that graced some of the most intelligent and innovative hit records
of the 1970s is to be auctioned in Wiltshire next month. The
Fender Rhodes electric piano owned by former-10cc member Eric Stewart was
used on many of the band's biggest hits including Dreadlock Holiday, Life is
a Minestrone, The Wall Street Shuffle and, most famously, 1975's
ground-breaking I'm Not in Love, which topped the UK chart for two weeks. The
original promotional video for I'm Not in Love featured Stewart, who sang
lead vocal on the track, playing the Fender Rhodes. During
a hiatus in 10cc's career in the 1980s, the keyboard was used by Paul
McCartney and Stevie Wonder in studio recording sessions. Stewart,
now aged 74, is selling the Fender Rhodes and also a customised 1950s Gibson
Les Paul guitar, which featured on many 10cc tracks and also two of Paul
McCartney's solo albums, Pipes of Peace and Tug of War. Luke
Hobbs, auctioneer from Gardiner Houlgate, said: "This keyboard is
probably the most significant piece of 10cc memorabilia ever to come onto the
market. If you listen to I'm Not in Love, it's the very first thing you hear.
It really is an iconic piece of British pop history. "As
well as being integral to 10cc's sound, the keyboard featured prominently in
the band's videos and photographs. I'm anticipating a lot of interest from
collectors, fans and possibly museums." The
keyboard is expected to sell for £6,000–£10,000. 10cc
formed in 1972 comprising four members: Eric Stewart, Graham Gouldman, Kevin
Godley and Lol Creme. Between 1972 and 1983, the band released nine albums
and 25 singles in the UK, 11 of which reached the top 10, three going to
number one. The band was once described as 'the missing link' between The
Beatles and Blur. 10cc
broke up on 1983, reuniting briefly in 1993 to record a new album. A version
of the band featuring Graham Gouldman continues to tour and play live. I'm
Not in Love featured on the soundtrack of hit 2014 film Guardians of the
Galaxy. The
three-day auction will take place over Wednesday 11–Friday 13 September at
Gardiner Houlgate, 9 Leafield Way, Corsham, Wiltshire, SN13 9SW. Eric
Stewart's Fender Rhodes and Les Paul guitar will be available for public
viewing from Monday 9 September from 9am–5.30pm until the day of the sale
itself. For
more information contact Luke Hobbs or Jamie South 01225 812912 or 07718
988374 or by email at auctions@gardinerhoulgate.co.uk. Gardiner
Houlgate is the only auction house in Europe to hold dedicated stand-alone
sales of guitars and related items, selling over 1,500 guitars a year at
quarterly auctions. 01225

A
Letter From Kevin Godley… An
update on my forthcoming MUSCLE MEMORY solo album for those of you following
its progress, and especially if you’ve pledged for the finished record or other
elements of the campaign. Dear Pledgers and friends, First and foremost, thank you for supporting my MUSCLE MEMORY
project and I’m sorry for the lack of useful updates but all is 100% clear
now. PledgeMusic is, unfortunately, no more so like many other artists I’m
moving on. That being said it got the record up and running, helped me to
reach other musicians interested in collaborating, and indicated that there
were enough people intrigued by solo KG music to make it a worthwhile
experiment, but the process failed. Such a shame because the Pledge business
model was, for a good while, a great disruptive outlet for all kinds of music
and musicians. Still, no looking back, only forwards and forwards for me
means a non crowd-funded record release via the extraordinary UK independent
label The State51 Conspiracy. https://www.facebook.com/thestate51conspiracy/ MUSCLE MEMORY will now be released in both digital and physical
formats (definitive release date TBD) with regular updates posted in the
MUSCLE MEMORY UPDATES section of my website:
I must also apologise for being unable to deliver the items you
pledged for. This is simply because not a penny collected by PledgeMusic for
this very purpose ever reached me, which affectively neutralised my ability
to do so. All my resources will now go into final recording, mastering and
making MUSCLE MEMORY the best record it can possibly be. So, once again,
thank you so much for your patience and hopefully your continued enthusiasm
for the outcome. The route has changed but the destination is still the same. Kevin Godley |

10cc/Godley
& Creme Legend Kevin Godley Creates New Videos For 10cc Concerts Update on what was previously posted Is
this a 10cc reunion? Well, sort of.... Former band member and legendary
director Kevin Godley has created 2 new videos for Graham Gouldman's
touring version of 10cc. This is not the first time the two founding band
members have collaborated. Godley and Gouldman created some fascinating new
music back in 2006 under the guise GG/06, in which the track used for one of
the videos "Son of Man" was created. In
2006, for the first time in over three decades original 10cc members Godley
and Gouldman reunited to record new music. Best known for such classic 10cc
hits as "Rubber Bullets," "I'm Not In Love" and "The
Dean & I," as well as Godley and Creme's hit "Cry," Godley and Gouldman recorded six new
download-only songs which received rave reviews from fans and critics alike
worldwide! The music has recently been released on a limited edition CD only
available at 10cc shows! Kevin
Godley, who has directed some of the most successful music videos in rock and
roll for such artists as Peter Gabriel, Duran Duran, U2, Herbie Hancock,
Hozier, Elbow, The Beatles, Paul McCartney and The Police to name just a few,
graces all six tracks with his tremendous voice - arguably one of the great
vocalists in music today! Says
Kevin, "I made this film of the GG/06 (that's me and Graham Gouldman)
track 'Son Of Man' for the current 10cc touring band. It's a musical
documentary about how 10cc started so it works as a kind of intro to the
show. I ripped lots of stuff, shot everything on my iPhone X off my desktop
screen, generated text, became a throwback using the MSQRD app and edited it
all on Adobe Premier Pro. Tech head." Watch
the video for "Son
Of Man" Record
Collector magazine described "Son Of Man" as "a
tongue-in-cheek account of how a trio of studio-bound hermits called Hotlegs
became the 70s chart-topping quartet known to all as 10cc. The song that was
neither music nor art was Hotlegs' 1970 one-hit oddity, 'Neanderthal Man,'
while 'Graham on bass' was none other than Graham Gouldman. And so, the 10cc
story has come full circle." Kevin
created a second video for 10cc's mega-hit "I'm Not In Love." Kevin
explains, "I directed and edited this film to visually enhance the
current 10cc touring band's live performance of 'I'm Not In Love' and it was
a 100% labour of love." Watch
the video for "I'm
Not In Love" "I'm
Not In Love" was written by band members Eric Stewart and Graham
Gouldman and is known for its innovative and distinctive backing track,
composed mostly of the band's multitracked vocals. Released in the UK in May
1975 as the second single from the band's third album "The Original
Soundtrack," it became the second of the group's three number-one
singles in the UK between 1973 and 1978, topping the UK singles chart for two
weeks. The song was also the band's breakthrough hit worldwide, reaching number
one in Ireland and Canada and number two on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US,
as well as reaching the top 10 in Australia, New Zealand and several European
countries. "I'm
Not In Love" was originally conceived as a bossa nova song played on
guitars, but Kevin Godley and Lol Creme disliked the track and it was
abandoned. However, after hearing members of their staff continue to sing the
melody around their studio, Stewart persuaded the group to give the song
another chance, to which Godley replied that for the song to work it needed
to be radically changed, and suggested that the band should try and create a
new version using just voices. Along
with the 2 new videos, Kevin Godley created and starred in a previous
innovative video for the song "Somewhere In Hollywood" which 10cc
have used in concert during the past couple of years. Watch
the video for "Somewhere
In Hollywood" In
other news, Kevin Godley recently started recording his highly anticipated
new solo album "MUSCLE MEMORY." What makes this album special,
along with being his very first solo album, is that it will be comprised of
collaborations between Kevin and a cast of musicians he has only met via
email or Skype, who have submitted instrumental tracks that he has chosen to
turn into songs. Kevin is also in the early stages of pre-production to
direct his first feature film, "The Gate," based on Orson Welles'
adventures in Ireland circa 1931. Kevin

2018 News Vic
Emerson Obituary…*(with thanks to Guy Mowbray/The Guardian) Vic
Emerson, who has died aged 69 of pancreatic cancer, was a keyboard player
with Mandalaband, Sad Café and 10cc. He co-wrote the single Every Day Hurts,
which was a huge hit for Sad Café in 1979. He was
born in Prestwich near Manchester, the son of Ben Emerson, a tailor, and his
wife, Myra. Vic was always a talented musician; he had his first piano
lessons at four and passed his grade six exam at the age of 12, while at Bury
grammar school. In the early 1960s he bought a Hammond organ to play at home,
and when he left school he became a cinema organist in Stockport. In the
60s Vic worked the cabaret circuit, playing keyboards, and became a session
musician at Camel Studios near Stockport, where he met the drummer Tony
Cresswell, guitarist Ashley Mulford and bass player John Stimpson, later to
form Sad Café with him. The engineer at the studios, Dave Rohl, was working
on an album called Mandalaband and asked Vic to put some keyboards on it.
“Not long after, Dave went down to London,” Vic told me. “He came back with a
record deal with Chrysalis Records. I was apparently a member of a band
[Mandalaband] when I didn’t know there was one.” By
1976 Mandalaband had broken up. Vic moved into a flat in Manchester with
Stimpson, and they were looking to form a new band. “We needed a singer. John
told me there was a friend of his playing at Manchester Polytechnic students’
union. There were two acts on. The first act didn’t happen. The next singer
sang two lines. That guy had it. The band was Gyro. The singer was Paul
Young. We offered Paul a deal.” It was the birth of Sad Café. According
to Vic, the story behind Every Day Hurts is that, “The music was mostly mine.
The melody on the verse is Paul Young’s. The sad truth of Every Day Hurts was
I wrote it at my house in Blackpool when my dad was dying, although the
lyrics are Paul’s.” The song was also co-written by Stimpson. It reached No 3
in the UK charts. In the
early 80s Vic toured with 10cc and played on their albums Ten Out of 10 and
Windows in the Jungle. He stayed with Sad Café until 1984. The
following year he went to Paris to do some sessions and a tour, and decided
to stay. He lived and worked there for 33 years. After Young died aged 53 in
2000, Vic contributed a handful of tracks for a posthumous Paul Young album,
Chronicles, which was released in 2011. Vic Emerson (far left) and

has been a friend and a valued member of the band for many years and I wish
him all the very best for the future,” says 10cc’s Graham Gouldman Paul – Iain – Graham – Rick
- Keith Graham’s
going on tour in 2018…but it’s not what you think… Graham
Gouldman has accepted an invitation to join Ringo Starr & His All Starr
Band for a tour of Europe next summer. Ringo
has kept the same band line-up for several years, but wanted a change for the
next tour and approached Graham with the idea some months ago. The All Starr
Band also features Steve Lukather of Toto, Gregg Rolie of Santana, Men At
Work’s Colin Hay, Warren Ham (whose credits include working with Toto, Donna
Summer and Olivia Newton-John) and Gregg Bissonette (Santana, Toto and ELO). “I
didn’t need to think about it,” says Graham. “As I’ve said before, without
the Beatles there wouldn’t have been a 10cc, so to be asked to join Ringo’s
band is a huge honour and very exciting. It’ll also be a great pleasure to
play alongside such esteemed musicians as Steve, Warren and the others.” The
21-date tour will take the band to Austria, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark,
Finland, Germany, Luxembourg, Monaco, Netherlands, Israel and Italy. Click on

for more details. Before
the Ringo tour, Graham and 10cc will tour Germany, Holland and Australia
through March and April. with a UK tour being planned for the autumn. 10cc
will also be playing festivals across Europe during July-August. |

selling a 6 song EP… Fans
will be able to purchase a specially recorded 6 song EP this September at
concerts on Graham’s Heart Full Of Songs tour. As yet, details are not

of boxsets, there’s artwork too… Follow
this link
to preorder exclusive signed artwork, prints and posters in addition
to the two superb 10cc & Godley and Creme Box Sets. Guess
who else has a boxset coming out soon… This
September will see the release of Godley & Creme : Body Of Work 1978-1978 by Caroline International. It can currently be
pre-ordered for GBP 23.94 This
box features music from Kevin Godley and Lol Creme that spans 10 years. The
first CD combines 1977’s L and its follow-up Freeze Frame. The next album,
1981’s Ismism (aka Snack Attack) shares space with 1983’s Bird Of Prey on
another ‘two-fer’ disc (although a close look at the track listing confirms
that the last song on that album – Out In The Cold – is bumped to the start
of CD3!). The History Mix Volume 1 (which features the hit single Cry) and
their final album Goodbye Blue Sky fill out the next two CDs and the final
disc contains single A-sides, B-sides and an extended version. Click here

Stewart’s 2CD ANTHOLOGY
is released on July 21st on Cherry Red. Universal release the 10cc
4CD boxset BEFORE

Universal
release 10cc boxset… This
July, Universal will issue Before During After – The Story of 10cc, a new
10cc four-CD box set curated with input from the band to “detail each and
every chapter of their musical story”. The box features the band together and
apart and therefore features work from artists like Paul McCartney, the Art
of Noise, Wax and Godley and Creme. CD one
is basically a 10cc ‘best of’
while the second disc is dubbed ‘What
We Did Next‘ and here’s where it gets interesting. Eric Stewart co-wrote
six songs on Paul McCartney‘s 1986 album Press To Play and one of these
tracks, Pretty Little Head, is included on disc two. However, it’s the single
mix that features here, which was radically remixed by Larry Alexander for
the seven-inch single. This version has never been issued on CD, so this is a
genuine rarity. The
other two discs are ‘And Friends‘
which features collaborations and production work (if you bought Strawberry Bubblegum a few years ago,
you have this disc) , while the final CD ‘Before 10cc – The Early Years‘ which has work from early beat
group The Mindbenders which featured Eric Stewart and Graham Gouldman and
Hotlegs which was an early incarnation of 10cc. Before During
After – The Story of 10cc
is released on 28 July 2017. It can be pre-ordered from HMV or Amazon UK for GBP39.99 However,
a two-CD edition called During After which only features the first two
discs in the box, can be pre-ordered for just GBP9.99 For more information, click here Eric
