MICK WILSON - SO THE STORY GOES
1. TAKE ME
DANCING
Dave : Very Catchy, Very Everly Brothers meets Country Rock with an unmistakeable hint of early 10cc running through its veins. Excellent album opener especially with The Shadows Legend on Drums Mr Brian Bennett
Val : This country style song gathers a slightly cheesy momentum - a punchy start for the CD and easy to remember.
Roy : Always pays to have a good opening song and this is exactly that.
2. NEVER ENDING
SUMMER
Dave : Crisp Modern Sound with a 60’s feel to the backing track, sends you exactly where the song wants you to go.
Val : Feel good song to spring into summer, easy on the ear and very catchy.
Roy : I liked this one a lot, thought it sounded very Sad Café-ish.
3. EVERY TIME
WE TOUCH
Dave : Beautiful Ballad with traces of country. This track is very well crafted and very skilfully sung by Mick which really gives this track a life of its own
Val : My favourite track on the album. Mick makes this song memorable and beautiful by his air of vulnerability and edginess, complemented by moody guitar.
Roy : I thought this would make a very good “boy band” song. The intro was the only time on the whole album you could really notice any input from Graham Gouldman. I mean that nicely!
4. IT AIN’T
BRAGGIN’ IF IT’S TRUE
Dave : Modern lyrics flow through this track that has you singing along in no time complimented perfectly with excellent backing, fabulous track
Val : I was slow to warm to this track but now it’s so delicious and more-ish and can’t wait for the chorus.
Roy : I’d have enjoyed this one more with heavier bass.
5. SO THE STORY
GOES
Dave : The only track that I will have to listen to again a few times
Val : Mick pours maximum feeling and depth into his songs and this one is no exception. Very likeable the more you listen to it.
Roy : Great vocals on this…catchy tag line so the story goes.
6. WHAT SHE
WANTS (IS WHAT SHE GETS)
Dave : Up-tempo Rocking Track with fabulous Electric Guitars flowing through this song and Mick’s vocals really keep this song rocking from start to finish
Val : retro crisp and refreshing
Roy : Middle track of the album, haven’t heard a bad song yet.
7. DON’T TELL
ME IT’S OVER
Dave : Upbeat ballad with the harmonies blending perfectly with the overall of this excellent song
Val : Grown up lyrics meet guitar. Sultry and sublime
Roy : Another boy band song… Maybe he could get Mike Stevens to get Take That to cover it.
8. CONSTANT
COMPANION
Dave : The best track on the album telling of the relationship between father and son or even any form of close relationship. Brings back nice memories for the listener
Val : Thought provoking track of a departed loved one and a continuing relationship nurtured long after a passing. The upbeat tempo and lyrics concentrate on the positive side and keep the subject light
Roy : Loved the drums on this one.
9. THINKING
ABOUT YOU
Dave : The versatility of the range of Mick’s vocals shines through on this song with a modernistic take on a 60’s feel, wonderful track
Val : Not just another sad love song, Dave’s right, it’s a wonderful track
Roy : Another Sad Café soundalike. That’s not a bad thing though. Very enjoyable.
10. I DIDN’T
MISS IT AT ALL
Dave : Very 10cc, Very Godley & Crème and Very Beatles, Very Enjoyable - What more can I say?
Val : Great singalong track
Roy : Very enjoyable indeed.
11. SAVE ME
Dave : 2011 country feel to this track - a real toe tapping song with a feel good factor which gives an excellent ending to a very excellent album
Val : I don’t like whistling so I’m so not struck on this track. LOVE the album so much it’s in my car though!!!!!
Roy : Yes it is a country style song, but it’s still enjoyable! On the whole, a great Mick Wilson album.
Co-written and co-produced with but not overshadowed at all by Graham.
