MICK TERRY - THE GROWN UPS

THE REVIEW

By

David Jarvis - Valerie Aldred

1. Hoxton Song

Dave : Lively Opening Track with a feel of a proper pop song with a hint of the 1960’s flowing through it, clear lead vocals and excellent backing vocals and production

Val : Mick’s Husky tones have a boy next door feel to it,  youthful but grown up warmth with punchy piano that says stand up and listen to this, Great start and a track you will remember

2. Northern Exposure

Dave : Get behind the wheel, open the windows and turn the volume up high. This is the best way to listen to this track, very catchy song very beach boys in places

Val : Another catchy feel good track, upbeat, colourfully vibrant and whole. I especially love the vintage sound halfway through reminiscent of the Jim’ll Fix It Era…….

3. Comets

Dave : Another catchy well produced lively country and western track which takes you to Nashville and back tapping your toes all the way……..

Val : Mick has good empathy towards his songs, you can hear the belief in his voice as he immerses himself in each track. Personally I’m unsure of the breathy “Ah Ah Ah” sound used on this track which I find slightly distracting but that’s just personal taste, other than that, this is a catchy number with a lovely country and western feel to it.

4. T.E.D.

Dave : Duel Lead Vocals give a nice warm feel to this track with amazing backing vocals, only problem with this song is that you never want it to end

Val : Believable lyrics with a beautiful crystal clear delivery

5. The Ushers Tale

Dave : This song will have you tapping your feet and have you reminiscing about your own past with excellent time changes and amazing acoustic and electric guitars which make this song flow so lovely

Val : This song may need a few listens and then probably a few more before it grows on you

6. Ringing Like A Bell

Dave : Lovely ballad, Lovely backing, Lovely lead vocals…. Nuff said !

Val : Plodding easy going track, whilst the backing gives the listener a relaxed Sunday feel,  which is no criticism towards this great track

7. Tinsel Town

Dave : I Love this song with warm vocals which makes you listen hard to the lyrics whilst the backing vocals harmonises the track so well

Val : Thought provoking lyrics supported by a memorable tune

8. Safe From Sound

Dave : Another track that does not disappoint the listener with a very modern sound interspersed with wonderful harmonies that will transport you through as many genres as you would want it too

Val : Probably my favourite. Very upbeat,  with a lovely vintage feel to it,  I Love the gaps in the song but I don’t like the finger clicking and whistling which I feel date a great track…….

9. Hoxton Song (Reprise)

Dave : Lovely ending to a wonderful album

Val : Great ending to a great CD well worth a listen to, a Moorish pleasure
